This is an excellent summary of the pros and cons of the major medications used to treat adolescent depression. As always, since there is a risk of suicidal thoughts from these meds, each patient has to be evaluated. However, the CDC has also come out with statistics that teen suicide is up 76% in young girls aged 10 - 14, and they link a drop in prescriptions for anti-depressants. Studies only go so far. The individual relationships between doctors, patients, and parents are the key to dealing with this disease.
