This was an excellent article explaining the difference between serotonin reuptake inhibitors, serotonin and norepinerphrine reuptake inhibitors, and monoamine oxidase, which cleans up the brain chemicals as they are transmitted. The only way to know what is causing a particular patient's depression is to figure out what brain chemical isn't working properly.
