So much more than simply a discussion of the "Role of melatonin in seasonal depression," this article actually speaks at length about many facets of SAD. It's also oddly poetic, from the first paragraph's description of "the blustery winds and the trees now barren of leaves," to the vivid imagery of winter festivities and the peppering of poignant, archaic turns of phrase, as in "On so little did so much hang." Unfortunately, the author also shares the poet's casual disregard for proper punctuation, which can make it a bit hard to follow in places. That said, this article answered many questions for me, but left me with one: does Seasonal Affective Disorder contribute to the development of a peculiar New England style of poetry? The author lives in Massachusetts, and the specter of fellow New Englander Robert Frost permeates this piece.
